New 2017 Events for Magnuson Children’s Garden!

Spring is right around the corner! There are a number of fun events scheduled for 2017 for Magnuson Children’s Garden.

  • Saturday, March 18th from 10am-2pm: Stewardship event with volunteers from Seattle Works TeamWorks and a local cub scout troop;
  • Saturday, April 8th from 10am-2pm: Stewardship event with volunteers from Seattle Works TeamWorks, plus an “Earth Month” Family Garden Day with free, family-friendly gardening and nature activities;
  • Saturday, May 20th from 10am-2pm: Stewardship event with volunteers from Seattle Works TeamWorks, plus an “Happy Spring” Family Garden Day with free, family-friendly gardening and nature activities;
  • Saturday, June 17th from 12pm-3:30pm: Seattle Works Day stewardship event plus a “Welcome Summer” Family Garden Day with free, family-friendly gardening and nature activities;
  • Friday, June 30th from 6-8pm: Family Garden Day with free, family-friendly gardening and nature activities during Magnuson Community Center’s annual 4th of July Ice Cream Social event;
  • Friday, July 28th from 6-8pm: Family Garden Day with free, family-friendly gardening and nature activities during Magnuson Community Center’s summer concert night in the amphitheater with local “kindie rock” band Recess Monkey;
  • Friday, August 4th from 6-8pm: Family Garden Day with free, family-friendly gardening and nature activities during Magnuson Community Center’s summer concert night in the amphitheater with a local “Big Band” concert; and
  • Friday Sept. 15th from 9am-1pm: annual United Way Day of Caring stewardship event

Celebrate Local Food & Urban Farming at Harvest Fair on Saturday, Aug. 6th!

Seattle Tilth’s annual Harvest Fair can be described as a country fair in the city.
Co-presented with PCC Natural Markets, Harvest Fair is on Saturday, August 6, 10 a.m.-4 p.m., at Meridian Park (4850 Meridian Ave N., Seattle).

A family friendly event, Harvest Fair offers fun opportunities for people of all ages. Take a turn at The Central Co-op Cider Press, snuggle a goat or chicken at the urban farm area, or make an aromatic herb crown to wear festively around the grounds — connecting you to similar traditions across the planet and throughout history.

 

At the demonstration tent, learn new kitchen and garden tips that you can try at home:

10:30 a.m.         Worm Bin Demonstration

11:30 a.m.         Learn How to Make Kombucha

1 p.m.               Beneficial Bug BINGO — win prizes!

2 p.m.               Herb Sodas and Herb Salts for Kids

3 p.m.               Cooking Demo: Papas Dulce and Kale

 

Stock up on ripe produce at the height of the season: organic farm stands will be overflowing with fresh, deliciousproduce such as peaches, berries and cucumbers — perfect for making jams, pickles and other canned goods. Vendors will be selling native and edible plants, garden supplies and hand made goods. Enjoy tasty food and live music!

It’s free but donations are encouraged at entrances to help cover expenses. Details can be found here.

Shakespeare in the Park!

Greenstage Productions will be presenting Shakespeare in the amphitheater at Magnuson Park next Thursday through Sunday.

Schedule:

  • ‘Merry Wives of Windsor’ : Thursday, Aug. 4 at 7PM, Saturday Aug. 6 at 7PM and Sunday Aug. 7 at 3PM
  • ‘Cymbeline’ on Friday Aug. 5 at 7PM, Saturday Aug. 6 at 3PM

2016 Children’s Garden Events at Magnuson

2016 Children’s Garden Event Calendar

Sat. March 19th from 10 am-2 pm:  Seattle Works TeamWorks stewardship event. This first major event of the year will be about preparing the soil and beginning to plant our new Butterfly Garden, and the Blueberry patch on the lower east side of the hill.

Sat. April 16th from 10:00 am – 2:00 pm: Seattle Works TeamWorks stewardship event and 2nd annual Earth Day Family Garden Day.  There will be family-friendly hands-on garden activities, such as worm bin and log pile exploration, nature art etc, and the goal is for the new Butterfly garden and Blueberry projects to be completed!

Possible June event: There is a possibility that we will also host a Seattle Works Day event in early June, but the date, time, and application info have not yet been released by Seattle Works.

Friday July 1st from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm: This Family Day event will feature a few family-friendly activities, such as worm bin and log pile exploration, nature art etc. during the Magnuson Community Center Ice Cream Social amphitheater event with a Bluegrass band. This has also been listed on the Seattle Works “hot project” calendar.

Tuesday July 26th from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm: This Family Day event will feature a few family-friendly activities, such as worm bin and log pile exploration, nature art etc. during the Magnuson Community Center amphitheater event with a Beatles tribute band. This has been listed on the Seattle Works “hot project” calendar also.

Tuesday August 16th from 6:00 pm – 8:00 pm: This Family Day event will feature a few family-friendly activities, such as worm bin and log pile exploration, nature art etc. during the Magnuson Community Center amphitheater event with Caspar Babypants performing. This has been listed on the Seattle Works “hot project” calendar also.

Friday September 23rd from 9:00 am – 1:00 pm: United Way Day of Caring in the Magnuson Children’s Garden and P-Patch to get the garden in tip top shape for the Oct 1st Scarecrow Fest!

Saturday Oct 1st: Scarecrow Fest! 11 am-2 pm:  We plan to host our usual family-friendly activities, such as worm bin and log pile exploration, and nature art, plus Scarecrow Fest favorites such as the orchard maze/scavenger hunt, harvesting for the food back, etc.
